A little late posting this one but last week was not a typical one or particularly joyous as my almost 88 year old mother-in-law, Frances Allen, died. While not sudden or unexpected, when death comes to your family, it does take an emotional toll. This year, death has shown up twice; back in April, my sister, Terry Harris Forest, also left this world.
However, there was at least one bright spot in the past week as I got to enjoy an afternoon at a local brewery I had never been to before with some old friends and family before heading to Portland next month. Thanks to my niece, Melissa, for arranging things and getting everyone together at Stolen Sun Craft Brewing & Roasting Company which is a craft brewery, specialty coffee roasting, and craft kitchen all under one roof!
I got to sample 8 of their beers (tasters) and knew I found my favorite when Cheery Cherry touched my lips. While Belgian Dubbel is normally not my one I have at the top of my list, this one was delicious! According to their description of the beer, they do utilize traditional Belgian brewing methods and ingredients to remain true to the style, but they take their own twist from there, adding a large amount of fresh tart cherries. Definitely malty goodness combined with candi sugar sweetness and a savory tart cherry finish with a 7.5% ABV.
It was also easy to make it the best beer of the week when I got to snag a photo of my childhood best friend, Chris, in the same shot as the beer! Cheers Chris, hope to see you soon in Portland!
