Best Beer of the Week – 2021/44

Subtle Pulchritude – Rum Barrel Aged

There is something about a fire pit that brings out the best in a beer – especially one that was barrel-aged to start with! This one is from Wilmington Brew Works and was being saved in my basement since April of 2020.

This variant of Subtle Pulchritude, is a traditional Munich Dunkel, lagered in Jamaican Rum Barrels coming in at 7.9% ABV. It provides a toasty, caramel lager, transformed into a dry, boozy barrel-aged offering. The beer is subservient to the sweet character of the rum, the oak barrel peeks through on the finish with a hint of caramel.
